And now they are building another glass building exactly where that glass building was that they knocked down.

I also had a near fatal accident in my 1985 two door Metro when coming off the Oxted roundabout in 1985 (underneath the M25) one day, the car lost control, skidded across the central reservation and ending up in a ditch on its side on the other side of the road! Turns out this was caused by this exact design flaw and the fuel filler pipe was far too low and just in front of the rear offside wheel. I subsequently discovered that as the incorrect filler cap was fitted, petrol would spill onto the rear wheel when the car turned left. Austin Rover wouldn’t acknowledge this fault and I was left to fund repair of the car myself. I did write some strong letters to Austin Rover at the time, however the response was that the incident was purely driver error (my fault) and that the car was 100% safe! About two years later however, I read in the newspaper that Police in Birmingham experienced the same thing in a Panda Metro, however they weren’t as lucky as I was and ended up losing limbs! After that (and with fear of the Birmingham Police federation taking Austin Rover to court), Austin Rover finally sent a letter to Metro owners sp that they could fit the correct filler cap. If you look at later 2 door metros, you’ll also see a redesign with the filler cap being moved much higher on the body! Of course, as there was no internet (as we know it) back in 1985, I wasn’t aware of any other incidents until I read of the incidents involving the Birmingham Police Panda Metros. This UA-cam clip was eye opening (36 years after the incident with my Metro) - I hadn't realised so many cars were similarly affected, and the loss of life examples are inexcusable - shame on Austin Rover! Needless to say, all this makes me frothing mad to think back on it now (Austin Rover 'dodging' the issue, Austin Rover knowingly exposing people to extreme danger to life and forcing people to self-fund repair of the resultant damage), however I do remember that after Austin Rover's appalling response at the time, I wasn’t keen to ever buy from Austin Rover ever again. Would anything similar happen in 2021, and if so, would the car manufacturer responsible behave any differently? I believe they would and the internet and social media would ensure that everyone had more information than we had back in 1985.

Yes George Austin Rover would definitely be made to pay nowadays. I spent many a sleepless night those days trying to convince the powers that be of the issue. 40 years I came across a very large oil spillage from a combined harvester whilst riding a motorcycle, I reported this to the police saying it must be cleared up. I was so concerned when nothing was done I persistatly kept calling them trying to convince them that my years of experience in recovery and road traffic accident's that oil and wet roads produced a lethal cocktail. That same evening it rained and after a sleepless night I revisited the scene to find sadly 3 young people had lost their lives. I gave statements at a hearing where police obviously closed ranks and the case was put down to dangerous driving. So annoying still upsets me to this day. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-lancashire-11842273

Which pixel was the park in those time lapse parts? I don't get it. a whole lot of money to put in a park that only those who want to get wet can use. The rest just get to stand around and watch. other than that, it's a water sculpture, not a park. average temperatures are 42 to 66 deg F. I could see it if it freezes in the winter and used as a skating rink. Or gets over a 100F a lot of the summer, like where I live . so in the blazing summer at 66F, kids go out there, get soaking wet and then freeze when they stop playing. Makes sense to me... Wouldn't a green area cost millions less with minimal upkeep and be something everyone can use, including grandparents, workers on their lunch? It would sure be a lot more attractive and way calming, which is what I thought maybe a park is for. And useful.

The pond is hugely popular whenever the sun shines. In summer there are often hundreds of children playing in it and their parents sitting g round. All for free. I often go and sit with a coffee outside the cafe to be cheered up by them. The fountains work fine and light shows in the winter attract big crowds.

And by fail you mean the car didn't plummet down the side of the cliff ??. By the look of the car I surmise someone with little driving talent was taking corners at excessive speed. If this had been traditional Armco barrier with an impact angle as sever as that the car would have penetrated the barrier full stop.

  • @DriverGuy23

I wouldn't say it failed completely. It did keep the car from going over the cliff, but the driver/passenger may have been decapitated in the process!

i didn't here where it happened but i heard a story about driver getting trapped in his car by the cables and when the emergency services went and cut the cables one wiped around and broke a guys leg and as for decapitated i am amazed the news haven't made a big deal out of it yet in cars decapitation is not as likely but bikes well i haven't heard about a bike hitting one of these cable barriers without at losing a leg or an arm or snapping the spine. i remember talking to one biker who said he would rather run into a kangaroo then a cable barrier.

Must have been England, since the car is driving on the left. And that grinding noise is the bearing in a Lucas alternator. No mistaking that.

Depends what your definition of crap is? I would have said all that office space would have been much more useful and accommodating than the pond that's there now and already has fountains that don't work.

My grandad used to work in here as a cleaner but I think it should have been kept. why take down a perfectly good building that will have taken hundreds of man hours to build and replace it with some crap bars and a pond? :/

Richard thanks for creating such a really good product. I use it all the time. For those that are in the US like myself well you can buy the product directly off of eBay. Once again Richard thank you the product does an excellent job in cleaning and conditioning the neck and it doesn't feel oily such as some other products on the market. I also like the fact that it can be applied directly to the nut and bridge by using the applicator that comes with the kit. All the best.

@joshie4330 what you can do is get a rag and put some rubbing alcohol on it i use isopropyl 70% solution but you can use about any kind of rubbing alcohol and take a part of it put it under the string and pinch it and run it up and down the string about 2 or 3 times more if you want to and do it of every string it really gets the gunk out
